It started in 1800 with 740 books and 3 maps- all translated from London, and now it has 38m books and 5.5m maps. It’s a major resource for the Congress. This is a good articulation of the notion of linking the past to future.

 

Congressional Research Service, a legislative branch agency as a research arm of the Congress, makes no legislative or other policy recommendations to Congress; its responsibility is to ensure that Members of the House and Senate have available the best possible information and analysis.
